New members are always welcome to come along for a free taster session. Just pop along to our club below and introduce yourself.

Once you have attended a few sessions and wish to take it a bit further you will need to join the British Judo Council (M.A.C.). This is to obtain your licence which enables you to take part in competitions and fights, and also covers you with insurance. See below for further details.

Membership

People take part in judo for many different reasons. All levels of ability are catered for with competitions having separate categories to take them into account. There are also non-competitive grades for those no longer able to progress contest wise. Judo is a very physical sport, which makes it ideal to build stamina and fitness. For the younger people it also help build self-confidence and a sense of achievement.

So who can take part in judo? Well just about anybody, from school age up to old age, male or female.

To become a member (or licence holder) of the British Judo Council (M.A.C.) you should first select the type of membership you require from the list below. Once you have downloaded and completed the application form, along with the required fee, return it to:

Junior Membership

This is for those aged from 5 up to 15 years inclusive. By becoming a junior member, you are able to take part in the grading scheme, and enter championships, many of which have sections for lower grade to gain experience without coming against higher grades. In addition to this there are also courses that the high grades can attend to gain further knowledge and add to their skills. Also included in the licence fee is insurance cover.

Senior Membership

This is for those aged 16 years or over. By becoming a senior member, you are able to take part in the grading scheme, and enter championships. In addition to this there are also various courses that can be attended to gain further knowledge and add to their skills. The chance to hold posts on the Regional or National committees are also open to senior members. Also included in the licence fee is insurance cover.

5 Year Membership

For seniors there is the opportunity to take out a 5 year licence. This protects you against any rise in the fee for the duration of the licence.

Associate Membership

This is for those that act as officials at events but are not judoka. Insurance is included for this activity however, associate members are not able to take part in gradings, championships, courses or club training as insurance for this is not included.
